The San Onofre Parks Foundation

The San Onofre Parks Foundation (SOPF) is a California nonprofit 501(c)(3) public benefit charitable corporation dedicated to supporting California State Parks in delivering public education and interpretive programming at San Clemente and San Onofre State Beach Parks. Beyond its educational mission, SOPF serves as a community voice for the protection and preservation of these coastal treasures, advocating for environmental awareness and ethics while promoting San Onofre State Beach’s standing as a “World Treasure” that must never be compromised.

SOPF provides both volunteer and financial support for educational programs within the parks, with a particular focus on enhancing interpretive services through the year-round daily operation of a Visitor Center. This hub offers rotating exhibits, lectures, and special events that engage visitors and deepen public understanding of the parks’ ecological and cultural significance.

The Foundation also plays a hands-on role in park education, assisting in the development of interpretive panels and providing trained docents for public and school group tours. When issues threaten the future of these parklands, SOPF undertakes targeted public education campaigns to raise awareness and rally community support, ensuring these coastal resources remain protected for generations to come.
