Sometimes Helping a Child Starts by Helping the Parent Standing Beside Them

Rainbow® Sandals Foundation is honored to continue supporting the Flora May Foundation. Hear directly from founder Debbie Hansen-Bosse as she shares the story behind the foundation, its mission, and the impact it’s making in the lives of women and families.

Every child deserves to feel safe, supported, and hopeful about their future. Yet when a young person is struggling with mental health, anxiety, depression, substance abuse, school refusal, or has run away from home, parents are often left to navigate impossible decisions without guidance. Fear, confusion, hopelessness, and isolation can quickly overwhelm even the strongest families.

That’s why The Flora May Foundation exists.

We believe that lasting change begins by strengthening families from the inside out. Through our Parent Support Services, we walk alongside parents during some of life’s most difficult moments, providing compassionate guidance, mental health resources, advocacy, and practical solutions that help families find hope before a crisis becomes a tragedy.

We’ve seen parents arrive feeling lost and hopeless after a child has run away, faced a mental health crisis, or battled substance abuse. By intervening early, we’re able to help families avoid deeper crises, including homelessness, while restoring hope, stability, and a path toward a brighter future.

We also know that emotional support alone isn’t enough. Financial hardship can place enormous strain on families and often makes an already difficult situation even harder. That’s why we created Working Women Winning, our workforce development program that equips young women with digital skills, career coaching, financial literacy, interview preparation, professional clothing through our partner Working Wardrobes, internships, and job placement assistance. When parents achieve financial stability, children are more likely to experience stable housing, consistent meals, and the security every family deserves.

Together, our two pillars of help address both the emotional and economic challenges that place families at risk. By supporting parents, we’re helping children stay connected to the people who love them most while creating healthier, more resilient families.

We are incredibly grateful to the Rainbow Sandals Foundation and Jay “Sparky” Longley for their generous $25,000 grant. This investment will allow us to reach more families across South Orange County with timely intervention, compassionate support, skills, and practical resources that truly change lives. Their partnership strengthens our ability to walk alongside parents before a crisis becomes irreversible and helps build brighter futures for children who deserve every opportunity to thrive.

For the last 10 years Debbie Hansen-Bosse has been Founder & CEO of The Flora May Foundation of San Clemente. Together with partners like the Rainbow Sandals Foundation, we’re helping parents find their footing, families heal, children thrive, and communities grow stronger, one family at a time.
