Pet Project Foundation

For almost 40 years, Pet Project Foundation and the San Clemente-Dana Point Animal Shelter have been united in a unique partnership to provide pro-humane (No-Kill) care to the lost and abandoned animals of our two cities.

Pet Project Foundation serves as the non-profit rescue partner for the San Clemente-Dana Point Animal Shelter and provides all the funding necessary to cover the veterinary medical costs & special food expenses for every animal who passes through the shelter doors. This includes vaccinations, spaying/neutering services, important medications, and life-saving procedures. In addition, donations raised help pay for other important initiatives like our Kitten Foster Program and “A Rescue Mission” Program.

"A Rescue Mission” is a Program that began in 2012 with the goal of rescuing animals from high volume, overpopulated shelters in Southern California where they risk being euthanized. We provide them with much needed veterinary care and a pro-humane (No-Kill) environment while they await their perfect forever homes. Since the inception of the “A Rescue Mission” Program, thousands of dogs, cats & bunnies have made their way to our shelter from high occupancy shelters and have been adopted to loving families.

Fundraising events and donations are the life-blood of Pet Project Foundation and enable our non-profit to provide life-saving resources for the animals in need. We will be hosting our 22nd Annual “Tails of Forever” Gala on September 10th at the Laguna Cliffs Marriott Resort & Spa in Dana Point. To kickstart fundraising for the event, we received a very generous sponsorship donation from long-time supporter Jay “Sparky” Longley & his dog Bentley, along with the Rainbow Sandals Foundation of $10K. We are so grateful for this generous donation from Rainbow and want to encourage folks & local businesses to follow Sparky’s lead and help sponsor and attend our upcoming fundraising Gala event in support of the shelter animals.

In addition to our fundraising activities, our dedicated volunteers donate more than 30,000 hours of volunteer time each year to help train and walk the dogs, cuddle our cats & kittens, and give the bunnies plenty of “hop-time” & socialization.

Pet Project Foundation is grateful to the communities of San Clemente and Dana Point for their continued support of our non-profit and the shelter animals.

Romeo:  I'm a male, black & white Border Collie mix and the shelter staff think I’m about 10 months old. I came to the San Clemente-Dana Point Animal shelter from a high-kill shelter for a second chance at finding my forever family.  I’m a very sweet boy who is a little shy at first…and loves to be with people and families of all ages. I love to run and play in the yard.

Clyde: I’m a male, Black & Red Labrabor Retriever mix who is 10 months old. I was also relinquished to the shelter with my sister Bonnie and lived with other dogs and older children in a previous home. I am smart and love to play with toys…and also go on long walks.

Connor: I’m a male, Red & White Chihuahua and Beagle mix who is around 2 years old.  I am very active and love to run and play fetch.  I have a happy personality and love to play with other dogs too.  I’ve been at the shelter for 6 months and can’t wait to find my new forever family.

Pinky Pie: I’m a female boxer who is around 4 years old.  I came to the San Clemente-Dana Point Animal shelter from a high-kill shelter for a second chance at finding my forever family.  I have a happy personality and love to be around people and go for long walks.  I am a very sweet girl who is also deaf, and will need a special adopter who will understand my special needs.
