Orange County Rescue Mission (OCRM) exists to minister the love of Jesus Christ to the Least, the Last, and the Lost of our community through the provision of assistance in the areas of guidance, counseling, education, job training, shelter, food, clothing, health care, and independent living communities. We welcome adults and children regardless of race, color, national or ethnic origin, sex, age, disability, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, veteran status, or pregnancy to our campuses and programs.
Since 1965, OCRM has provided a continuum of care to meet the needs of marginalized populations, and we have expanded our programs and services to serve at-risk communities. With 464 beds, and ten locations, OCRM is the largest, 100% privately funded service provider of shelter beds and homeless services in Orange County, CA.
We are the only agency in Orange County that serves homeless men, women, children, pregnant women, survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking, single veterans, veterans with families, the formerly incarcerated, and refugees within the same organization. OCRM is the only agency in Orange and Los Angeles Counties providing transitional housing and comprehensive services to refugees. OCRM also provides relief and support to disaster victims in the local area, like those affected by fire, flood, and the COVID-19 crisis (source: 211oc.org). In FY2023, OCRM served 14,931 individuals in need.
OCRM is uniquely positioned to meet the needs of marginalized populations to serve at-risk communities. OCRM programs include (1) homeless outreach and prevention services, (2) mobile food outreach to homeless individuals and a food distribution program that distributes food boxes to 64 partner agencies in Orange County serving high-risk and impoverished populations, (3) transitional housing programs for homeless men, women, children, veterans, veterans with families, the formerly incarcerated, and refugees, (4) emergency housing for survivors of human trafficking and their children, and (5) supportive housing for homeless families and homeless single mothers with children.
The short-term goal of OCRM's programs is to address a homeless family or individual's immediate, basic needs for shelter, food, and clothing. Long-term, we utilize practical strategies that help homeless families and individuals overcome the barriers that impede them from achieving personal success, financial self-sufficiency, and becoming responsible, productive, and law-abiding citizens and leaders in their homes, places of worship, and communities.
In FY2023, OCRM provided 2,118,356 meals, 152,786 shelter and bed nights, 79,314 baby and adult hygiene items, 93,605 medical exams, procedures, and prescription medications, 13,140 mental health assessments and treatments, 150 legal consultations, 278,813 toys, school supplies, and other items for children, 26,999 life skills and general education classes, and 16,305 client coaching, vocational, and job training sessions.
These are more than just numbers; they represent real people and the impact of teamwork, adaptability, and commitment. The ripple effect of restoring homeless individuals extends well beyond to their spouses, children, friends, and our community.
