San Clemente Military Family Outreach

San Clemente Military Family Outreach (SCMFO) is an all-volunteer nonprofit organization with roots dating back to 2002, when it began as Friends of San Onofre Marines (FOSOM). Founded by retired Marine Lt. Col. William McReynolds and his wife, Sidonia, the organization was born from a desire to provide emergency assistance to low-income military families near north Camp Pendleton, beginning with a dinner for 125 deploying Marines in November 2002.

After the McReynolds led FOSOM for five years, members of St. Andrew’s by the Sea Methodist Church, who had become deeply involved in the organization’s mission, stepped in to carry the work forward. In 2007, they established the San Clemente Military Families Support Group, which began operating as San Clemente Military Family Outreach in 2008.

SCMFO formally incorporated in 2018 and received 501(c)(3) nonprofit status from the IRS in 2019. Today, the organization draws support from a broad, ecumenical community while maintaining close ties to St. Andrew’s by the Sea, which continues to provide office space, phone service, and event facilities. Through decades of dedicated volunteer effort, SCMFO carries forward a mission rooted in compassion, service, and unwavering support for military families in need.
